Municipal Councillors are the key political principals representing the needs, interests and aspirations of local communities. The public participation process is a tool that seeks to promote and improve interaction between the community and the municipality. In the course of this process, a much-needed communication channel the deepens democracy has been established under the political auspices of the Speaker.
Govan Mbeki Municipal Council constitutes of at least 61 Councillors, of whom 31 are ward councilors directly elected by the public during the 2006 Municipal local elections while 30 Councillors are appointed through proportional representation.
