GMM unveils trucks & graders
According to the Executive Mayor, Cllr Sipho Nkosi, the trucks and graders are to be used to enhance service delivery.
“We have acquired this machinery for a sole purpose, to enhance service delivery”, he said.
The municipality struggled a lot with waste removal especially in December 2008 as most of its trucks were down.
“We felt we should invest in equipment so that we can be more effective with regards to waste removal and other service delivery matters.”
The municipality has spent about 17 million to purchase this equipment and about 53 employees have been trained as operators and drivers, respectively.
Each unit (town) will have its truck in addition to those that are already being utilised by the municipality and this will substantially reduce the municipality’s reliance on hiring equipment.
MMC for Health and Community Services, Mr Freddy Nkambule, said he was trilled that at last the trucks have been delivered.
“I urge our employees who are using this equipment to ensure that it stays in good condition.”
