In
celebrating Tata Mandela Day , Isithwalandwe the National Department of Arts and
Culture in partnership with the Govan Mbeki Municipality donated books to the
eMbalenhle Library on 14 July 2010. About 100 local community members and
government officials attended this event. The Deputy Minister of Arts and
Culture , Mr. Paul Mashatile encouraged the local community to protect
libraries because they are key centers of knowledge and information . He further
said that our people must use these books as tools to acquire information
on various subject matters .Tata Madiba is among many men and women who had joined and fought
for the advancement of the people of South Africa with a high level of
self-sacrifice, compassion, commitment and above all, love for humanity .
Our generation must also continue holding and defending these values in the
battle ground of ideas and temptation.
On Sunday , 18 July 2010 The Provincial Department of Human
Settlement in partnership with the Govan Mbeki Municipality constructed
nine(9) houses for the people with disabilities at eMbalenhle. The MEC for Human
Settlement, Mr. Madala Masuku, attended this occasion. Govan Mbeki councillors
and senior officials took part in the construction of the houses. Community
members were urged to work with Government to ensure that the legacy of Mandela
is preserved by ensuring that the less-fortunate are assisted to better their
lives.

The Govan Mbeki Local Municipality will host the mayoral imbizos
for the 2010/2011 financial
year , scheduled as follows:

Lebohang: Chief Ampie Mayisa Secondary School at

22 August 2010 , Kinross SASOL CLUB at

Members of the community are encouraged to attend these Imbizos
to raise their issues with the Executive Mayoral Committee and
Councillors.
